Tributes paid to women killed in Doncaster taxi crash

Two taxis were going in opposite directions along Great North Road when they hit each other near at around 12:25am on Sunday.

Tributes have been paid to two women killed when two taxis crashed in Doncaster.

59-year-old Jacqueline Melinda Friend, from Castleford (left in the picture) was described as "The most fabulous wife, mum, nana, sister, aunty & friend, was tragically taken from all her loved ones by the incident on Saturday night in Doncaster.

"Our world has been shattered, and will never be the same again. Jackie was the foundation of our whole family, and will be missed unbearably by all who knew and loved her.

"We will love her forever."

While the family of 52-year-old Lynda Leonard from Bradford said "Lynda will be sadly missed by her daughter Abbygail and partner Colin."

The families of both victims have asked for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time and will not be making any further statements.

Two taxis were going in opposite directions along Great North Road when they hit each other in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It's thought the women had been out with their partners at the races before the incident.

Police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

Anyone who may have seen the incident or witnessed the manner of driving of either vehicle before the collision, is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 26 of 31 January 2016.
