Tributes left for 13 year old following Doncaster shed fire

An investigation’s underway after a 13 year old boy is believed to have died in a shed fire in Doncaster.

The teenager - who's been named locally as Jack Sheldon - was discovered by firefighters who'd been called to Byron Avenue yesterday evening.

A cordon has been put up at the scene with flowers laid outside the house.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service said crews were called to the blaze at around 8.30pm. Police said after the flames had been extinguished a body was found, which they believed to be that of a teenage boy.

A joint investigation between the police and fire service is under way following the incident in the village, which is about seven miles (11km) from Doncaster.

Formal identification of the body has yet to take place.

Local residents have been speaking of their shock: “It’s just heart-breaking to know that it’s a child,” one woman told us.

“It’s absolutely horrible. When I first heard, I was in shock. I’m still shaking now. You don’t see this sort of thing happen in this small village. It’s a very small community, everybody knows everybody. It’s just unbelievable.”
