Tour de Yorkshire 2018: Road closures

All the route information you need to know for this weekend's international cycle race

The Tour de Yorkshire returns this weekend, heading through South Yorkshire on Thursday and Friday.

This year the international cycle event has extended to 4 days for the men’s race, while the women’s race is doubling in size from one to two days.

We’ll bring you the all the details of the race through the weekend, but there are a few road closures you’ll need to know about if you’re planning on travelling around the area.

There will be rolling road closures along the route which are due to start and finish around 30-45 minutes before and after the race passes through.

Stage 1 – Thursday 3rd May:

Beverley – Doncaster

Women’s Race starts at 8.40am and is due to arrive in Doncaster at 12.08pm

Men’s Race starts at 13.50pm and is due to arrive in Doncaster at 18.08pm

Stage 2 – Friday 4th May:

Barnsley – Ilkley

Women’s Race starts at 9.00am and is due to arrive in Ilkley at 12.15pm

Men’s Race starts at 14.20pm and is due to arrive in Ilkley at 17.48pm

Stage 3 - Saturday 5th May:

Richmond – Scarborough

Men’s Race starts at 13.10 and is due to arrive in Scarborough at 17.26

Stage 4 – Sunday 6th May:

Halifax – Leeds

Men’s Race starts at 12.10pm and is due to arrive in Leeds at 16.57pm

Huddersfield Road, Old Mill Lane area:

Women’s race, Friday 4 May – rolling road closure:

A full road closure will be in place on Old Mill Lane and Church Street from 8.30am to 9.45am which means there will be no access into Barnsley town centre from Huddersfield Road between this time.

The race will be leaving Barnsley town centre at 9am with the rolling road closure to be implemented between 20 and 45 minutes in advance of race arrival.

All on street parking will be prohibited between 8.15am – 9.30am. All vehicles must be moved to an alternative location during this period.

Men’s race, Friday 4 May – rolling road closure:

A rolling road closure will be implemented on Huddersfield Road from 1.40pm to 2.40pm.

The race will leave the town hall at 2:20pm and is expected to arrive in the area at approximately 2.25pm with the rolling road closure to be implemented between 20 and 45 minutes in advance of race arrival.

All on street parking will be prohibited between 2.00pm and 3.30pm. All vehicles must be moved to an alternative location during this period.

Access to all off street car parks in the town centre will be suspended (in order of requirement) from 5pm on Thursday and will reopen as soon as possible on Friday 4 May:

Thurgoland Bank - A full road closure will be implemented in this area from 1:30pm – 3:30pm on Friday. Diversions will be in place via Bower Hill.

Road closures:

King of the Mountain – Côte de Blacker Hill

A full road closure will be implemented in this area from 6am – 7pm on Friday

Women’s race, Friday 4 May – rolling road closure:

The race will be leaving Barnsley town centre at 9am with the rolling road closure to be implemented between 20 and 45 minutes in advance of race arrival. All on street parking will be prohibited between 8.15am – 9.30am.

Men’s race, Friday 4 May – rolling road closure:

The race is expected to arrive in the area at approximately 3pm with the rolling road closure to be implemented between 20 and 45 minutes in advance of race arrival. All on street parking will be prohibited between 2pm and 3.30pm.

ROTHERHAM AREAS AFFECTED:

Stage 2 of the race (Friday) passes through Rotherham before going on to Doncaster.

Both the men’s and women’s races will follow the same route through the borough, with the women travelling through in the morning, and the men's race mid-afternoon.
