Sheffield's iconic music venue The Leadmill has announced plans for its final event, with the landmark set to close on June 28 after almost 50 years.

It comes after management at the site lost a High Court appeal against being evicted by landlords The Electric Group, who want to take over the Leadmill themselves.

However it will have to be renamed, as the company do not own the rights to the 'Leadmill' name.

To mark the closure a 'Last Dance at The Leadmill' event will be held on June 28, with a lineup yet to be announced.

Management have also confirmed that they will work to relocate acts booked for later in the year to other venues in the city.

The Leadmill opened its doors 45 years ago, and over the decades the 900-capacity venue has boasted performances from Def Leppard, Queens of The Stone Age, Muse, Royal Blood, Stereophonics, Manic Street Preachers, Oasis, Pulp, Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, The Stone Roses, Suede and The Strokes to name but a few.

On 31st March 2022, The Leadmill was served an eviction notice by landlords Electric Group, ordering them to leave by March 2023.

Electric Group claimed they wanted to refurbish and relaunch the venue, however the Leadmill management said they owned brand, and any new venue couldn’t retain the Leadmill name.

The closure announcement three years ago was condemned by a variety of bands, and in May 2023 local heroes Def Leppard played an ultra-intimate show at The Leadmill to shine a light on the iconic venue and all the other venues across the UK facing the threat of closure.
