Teenager dies in hospital after Barnsley stabbing

A 15 year old boy who was critically injured in an assault in Barnsley on Sunday has died in hospital.
Police were called to Fish Dam Lane in Monk Bretton at around 2pm on August 8, finding the teenager had been stabbed in the chest.
A 17 year old boy has appeared in court charged with Grievous Bodily Harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in connection with the attack. He's been remanded in custody.
DCI Mark Oughton, of South Yorkshire Police, said:
“The investigation is ongoing, but sadly, I can confirm that the victim passed away in hospital this morning. His family continue to be supported by specialist officers at this incredibly difficult time.
“I know this news will be distressing for the local community, but I want to reassure people that this was an isolated incident, and there is no wider risk to the public.
“As our enquiries into the initial assault continue, we remain keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened.
Officers are urging anyone with information to get in touch.
