Police have arrested a 15 year old boy on suspicion of making a bomb threat to a Sheffield school this morning.

Officers were called to Birley Academy at 9.40am after the school received a suspicious call.

Staff evacuated the school as a precaution - students were sent home - and police searched the whole building.

They didn't find any device and now a 15 year old boy's been arrested on suspicion of malicious communications.

Chief Superintendent Natalie Shaw said:

"After a prolonged search of Birley Academy, a device has not been found.

“Hoax calls are malicious and irresponsible, they can cause a considerable deal of distress.

“Anyone found to have committed this offence could face a prison sentence."
