Sports Challenge Press Release
Quarter of a million invested into sports stars of the future
Entries to a competition which has provided thousands of pounds in grants to junior sports teams across our region closes this weekend children’s charity Cash for Kids has announced.
Grass roots sports clubs receive fundraising tuition from Cash for Kids then compete against each other to see who raises the most money in a month. The competition has awarded grants worth over £270,000, helping thousands of children since its launch in 2018.
The winners of the competition this year will receive a grant for every penny they raised and an additional £5,000. Runners up in the competition will all receive a grant for how much they raised to help fund their chosen projects.
Clubs who are helping disabled and disadvantaged children, including children on low incomes or from deprived areas, are encouraged to apply. Previous projects have funded kit, equipment and helped subsidise costs for children living in poverty.
Allan Ogle, Charity Manager for Cash for Kids, said: “The pandemic has increased unemployment and poverty and there’s a huge risk that children could be dropping out of playing their favourite sports because of financial barriers around affording subs, kit and equipment to take part.
“We can’t allow that to happen. Our region has developed a number of worldwide sports stars and the journey from grassroots is paramount to that success, so we have to provide children with every opportunity. I’d encourage anyone reading this to reach out to a volunteer you know that helps run a team and encourage them to apply.”
