South Yorkshire Police have praised three of its officers who stepped in to help a woman in distress in Doncaster.

Officers were alerted to an incident taking place in the Balby area of Doncaster, after PC Hannah Johnson spotted a woman on the wrong side of a bridge.

Johnson, who had been on her way home, stopped her car on the bridge in order to speak to the woman, and to try and safely get her to come off the bridge.

Following this, PC Johnson alerted her fellow officers to the incident taking place, with PC Cameron Taylor and PC Andy Smith helping to reassure the woman.

Thanks to the trio's actions, the woman was safely brought over the railings and escorted off the bridge where she was seen by paramedics who were also called to the scene.

Speaking on the trio's bravery, Chief Inspector Louise Kent from South Yorkshire Police said: "As shown by PC Johnson's actions, you never stop being a police officer and she deserves credit for stopping on the carriageway and helping to bring the situation under control.

"The professionalism and experience of all three officers really shone through in their management of this difficult and challenging incident, and I am pleased it was brought to a safe conclusion.

"The trio are a credit to South Yorkshire Police and I hope the public will share my gratitude to them for potentially saving this woman's life during a real concern for her safety."
