People in South Yorkshire await the government's tax & spending plans
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt is set to unveil his Spring Budget later
People in South Yorkshire will find out more about the government's tax & spending plans later.
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt is due to deliver his Spring Budget after Prime Minister's Questions.
Jon Dean is a lecturer in politics at Sheffield Hallam University.
We've been speaking to him about what could potentially happen in the statement:
"We're expecting to see the energy price guarantee stick at around £2,500 rather than increase to £3,000.
"Petrol duty-which had been due to go up by 5p a litre in April-could actually be kept at its current price.
"Motorists and people who drive to work are a key constituency of Conservative party voters, and they won't want to risk hiking petrol prices with the general election not too far away.
"I wouldn't be surprised if Jeremy Hunt manages to offer more support to families impacted by childcare costs and to nurseries so that they can stay open and take more kids on.
"Meanwhile, corporation tax is due to go up from 19%-25%.
"We're going to go from having one of the lowest corporation tax rates in the world to having one of the highest.
"A lot of people, especially in the Tory party, will be quite concerned about that.
"It might be that the Chancellor offers a lot of tax breaks to companies to counteract this."
The Labour Party Leader Keir Starmer is due to respond afterwards on behalf of the opposition.
