A South Yorkshire Police officer has been summonsed to court over allegations of excessive force being used during an arrest last year.

PC Connor Smith, 28, who works in a neighbourhood policing team in Doncaster, is facing a charge of common assault.

It is after an allegation during an arrest in the city on July 19 2023.

The office is due before Sheffield Magistrates Court on Monday 22 April.

The force says PC Smith has been suspended pending the criminal proceedings.

It adds he will also face an associated internal misconduct investigation.
