South Yorkshire's Police Federation call for 'calm' at petrol stations across the region
It's following days of queues and clashes at filling stations up and down the country due to lorry driver shortages.
There's a call for calm across South Yorkshire, with fuel shortages continuing to impact motorists across the region.
A lack of lorry drivers has led to days of queues and clashes at petrol stations across the country.
The Chairman of South Yorkshire's Police Federation-Sargent Steve Kent-is urging people to keep their composure whilst filling up at the pumps:
"What we could really do without at this stage is people getting desperate and having arguments and altercations at petrol stations.
"Whilst ever our officers are dealing with minor incidents like this, they're not going out to more critical incidents involving serious harm and domestic violence etc."
Meanwhile, Sargent Steve Kent is also calling for one thing in particular over the coming days:
"It's only fair that emergency services staff do get potentially prioritised, because if officers and NHS staff can't get to work, then this will impact the service we provide to the public.
"I'm sure the fuel pumps will be getting refilled shortly, so if we all use some common sense and just fill up when we urgently need to, then the emergency services shouldn't be hindered by what's happening right now."
