Parents in South Yorkshire 'sceptical' whether zombie knife ban will stop teenagers from carrying weapons

The new legislation is set to come into force tomorrow

Parents across South Yorkshire & North Derbyshire tell us they 'doubt' whether a fresh ban on zombie-style knives & machetes will put people off carrying weapons in public.

From tomorrow, it'll be an illegal offence to own one - meaning today is the final day these kinds of weapons can be handed in anonymously to the police.

Doncaster mum-of-3 Stacey Murray doesn't let her children play in their local park by themselves - due to fears of others carrying knives there:

"I feel that kids should be able to go and play or hang around in their communities without feeling scared that someone is potentially carrying any sort of weapon at all.

"Half of the time, I feel like some kids will take weapons out with them because of peer pressure.

"My eldest still doesn't go to the local park on her own or with her friends.

"I'm hoping that when this new law comes in that people will sit down and think about their actions, although in some areas I am doubtful that it will make a change at all.

"Why would you potentially ruin two lives by carrying a weapon? You'd be ruining your own life & the life of whoever is on the receiving end of it too.

"It'd destroy all the families who are involved as well, and it can see easily be avoided.

"It is sad to see kids not utilising what's in their communities - like parks and skateparks - in fear of who's going to turn up or if anything bad could happen to them."

It'll also be an illegal offence to sell or import zombie knives & machetes from tomorrow.
