A South Yorkshire home owner is calling for an end to the 'uncertainty' over ongoing speculation around HS2.

Reports over the past week have suggested the project could be scaled back due to the impact of Covid-19.

Becky Quartermaine lives on the Shimmer Estate in Mexborough.

She was told 5 years ago she may have to leave her home; to make way for the high-speed rail line:

"Over the last 5 years we've always thought it'd never go ahead because of the cost anyway.

"We've had a lot of uncertainty, a lot of rumours and a lot of reviews-so it's nothing surprising, and until we see it in paper, we won't believe it's going to happen anyway.

"We've lost a lot of neighbours, there's not many of the original home owners left now.

"It's only been in the last year that the estate has been finished, so we are finally getting somewhere, but until the possibility of HS2 is ruled out, then we're still living in the unknown."

Becky's keen for a decision to be made sooner rather than later:

"It's just been a nightmare for 5 years, and we need some certainty.

"We'd only lived here for 4 weeks before we got told we may have to leave.

"It was our dream home that we bought and it's not a place I want to leave, so fingers crossed it doesn't end up happening."
