A £41million support package was agreed with government - but they want more cash for struggling businesses

South Yorkshire leaders says they won't stop pressing the government for more money to help businesses survive under Tier Three

One-and-a-half million of us will be under the strictest Covid measures from Saturday.

30 million pounds of government funding to help local companies, but some MPs says ministers aren't offering enough support..

Liz Aspden, who owns the Harlequin pub in Sheffield, will be forced to close up this weekend. She said: "The first lockdown we managed okay, but that was on the back of a substantial amount of support from central government. I suspect this time around it's not going to be quite as generous.

"My main concern is the furlough scheme. That's meant to end in October. I don't know if they'll roll something out for hospitality. We are particularly impacted by this."

Barnsley Council Leader, Sir Steve Houghton, says leaders across the county are already working hard to get money where it is needed.

"That package we have secured, we will be working that up over the next few days to make sure we can get that money out there and into those business, and give them the support that they need, and some of their staff - or other people suffering hardship," he said.

"We have to do everything we can to get people through it.
