South Yorkshire theme park hoping for much needed financial boost when they re-open next week

Gulliver's Valley opened last year in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic

Gulliver's Valley tell us they 'can't wait' to bring the theme park 'out of hibernation' next week.

They've been closed all this year due to coronavirus restrictions, but are set to re-open to the public again next Monday - along with non-essential shops, pubs and hairdressers.

Julie Dalton is the Managing Director and says staff have faced a lot of challenges at their site at Rother Valley, which only opened last year:

"We opened in the summer, but we closed down in November, before we were able to get a little bit of Christmas operation.

"It was brilliant to be able to open partially in Rotherham over the festive season, but then we closed down again in the New Year, so hopefully as of next week, we might be able to get a steady year of operation.

"It's been a real challenge. We were shut for five months last year in total after opening a new park here in the Rother Valley, and we didn't run up to full capacity last summer. We only operated at 40% of our overall capacity, which just about kept our parks ticking over.

We also went on to ask Julie how she feels emotionally about re-opening:

"What we do this for is to see families having a great time.

"Seeing a child's smiling face is what this is all about. It's been a long time since we've seen children on site here, just enjoying themselves and being kids.

"We've been spent the last three weeks now bringing all our parks back to life again, but we know it'll all be worth it."
