Emergency services in South Yorkshire say they're 'hoping for the best, but prepared for the worst.'

It's as Storm Christoph continues to make its way through the region, with flood warnings in place and heavy rain expected until Thursday.

The Assistant Chief Fire Officer at South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is Tony Carlin.

He has this advice for people;

"Never enter flood water, either in a vehicle or on foot. You don't know what's underneath that water.

"In planning for storm Christoph, we've been hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst.

"That's how we treat things, particularly after the experiences of November 2019."

Mr Carlin went on to add that should people need rescuing, then they'll do their best to make sure it's done in line with current coronavirus restrictions;

"When we take someone out of their property because their life is at risk in that environment, we will make sure there's a safe place for them to go to, which will have gone through a chain of covid-19 compliance checks.

"That's the key change since the last time we had heavy rain here in South Yorkshire."
