Sheffield United relegation confirmed after 5-1 defeat
The Blades sit bottom of the Premier League table with just 16 points
Sheffield United have had their relegation fate confirmed after Chris Wilder's side were beaten 5-1 at Newcastle.
With three games to go the team sit bottom of the table with just 16 points - having conceded 97 goals during the season.
Manager Chris Wilder admits his side haven't been good enough but is promising things will get better:
"It's been a really poor season. The position we're in, the points tally we've got is completely unacceptable.
"These are the things that we'll work on. We basically need to freshen it up and I'm as keen and committed and have as big a desire as I've ever had to be front and centre of that with my coaches."
Hal Stewart co-hosts the Sheffield United Way Youtube channel and podcast and told us it may go down as the worst season in the club's history:
"I just think it's all been rather unpleasant and not particularly enjoyable. I think our travelling support though deserves a mention as being absolutely incredible.
"It's hard to pinpoint (where it all went wrong), there isn't one thing.
"It's actually genuinely really hard to compete now. The premier league has changed and you only need to look at the three teams that are in the relegation zone.
"This is a season where other sides have been docked points and the Championship promoted sides look like they're all just going to go down.
"And that is because the landscape has changed and if you haven't got billions and billions then it's really hard, and unfortunately that's what football is. It's being played on spreadsheets rather than on the pitch and that really saddens me."
