A Sheffield leisure centre is due to reopen as normal tomorrow after eight children and two teachers were taken to hospital following a school swimming lesson this morning.

Springs Leisure Centre has been closed for the day after the group suffered 'sickness symptoms.'

In a fresh statement, Steve Brailey, chief executive of venue operator SIV, said: “We would like to pass on our best wishes to the children and teachers affected by the incident.

“All areas of Springs Leisure Centre will re-open to the public as normal from 7am tomorrow morning.

“We have identified the problem which was caused by a reaction of chemicals in the plant room. The equipment repair has been completed.

“We have been liaising with Environmental Health Services throughout the day.”

Earlier there were emergency services outside the leisure centre.

The ten people were taken to hospital by ambulance following the incident.
