Sheffield student returns to uni after almost dying in crash
After a serious car crash left him in a coma for two months, a Sheffield student's returing to university today
A Sheffield student who's had to learn to walk and talk after a car crash left him in a 2-month coma is finally back at university today.
Scott Remmer, who's 22, was in an accident on Penistone Road last year which left him with major head injuries.
It happened in Kirkburton, just minutes from his home - he suffered multiple bleeds on the brain and doctors had to place him in a medically induced coma.
He was treated by Air Ambulance doctors on the scene.
18 months later and today he's finally starting his final year studying English at Sheffield Hallam University.
Scott's told us he feels lucky to be alive:
"I thought I'd be six feet under. I've had a lot of support and I'm just thankful to be here.
"I was only a couple modules and my disertation away from completing my degree, when I had the accident. So I really wanted to go back and finish it."
It's the second time the Air Ambulance has helped the family - three years ago they had to airlift Scott's brother to hospital.
His family have since raised £12,000 for the charity, by running the York 10k and recording a charity song.
His mum Kate says it's important for them to support the service:
"Without the air ambulance Scott would not have survived. It is that simple. They're an amazing charity.
"We really wanted to raise £12,000-the cost of keeping them flying for a day. It gave us a focus during what was a very difficult time and we've just been so touched by how much support we've had."
The dramatic rescue features in an episode of Helicopter ER which is being shown on TV tonight.
