A man has been charged following a standoff with armed police in Sheffield earlier this week that lasted for almost 36 hours.

Officers were called to a flat in a building on Broad Street on Monday night, with the building later being evacuated.

Sheffield Parkway was closed between the Park Square roundabout and Derek Dooley Way as the incident continued into Tuesday, causing major traffic disruption.

A 47 year old man was arrested early on Wednesday morning.

Yaqub Younis, of Broad Street, has now been formally charged with affray, making a bomb hoax threat, intentionally or recklessly causing a public nuisance and criminal damage.

He's due before Sheffield Magistrates Court on Friday.
