South Yorkshire Police appeal for information after Sheffield stabbing
Police were called to Cliff Street in the early hours of Saturday morning
South Yorkshire Police are appealing for information and witnesses following a stabbing in central Sheffield.
Officers first received reports of an altercation on Cliff Street at 4:20 a.m. on Saturday (February 24th).
When responders arrived on the scene, they found two men with substantial injuries requiring urgent medical attention.
The two men, aged 21 and 27, were taken to a nearby hospital by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, where they remain in a critical condition.
Following initial enquiries, it is believed that the two men had been walking down Cliff Street together, when a group of masked men approached them and soon became aggressive.
As a result, the force is now appealing for anyone who may have any relevant information to get in touch as soon as possible to catch those who caused the assault.
Detective Inspector Richard Armstrong from South Yorkshire Police said of the incident: "We’re appealing for anyone with information to get in touch, but we’re especially keen to hear from any witnesses and drivers, including taxis who may have been passing and have dashcam footage.
"We are in the early stages of the investigation and will continue to work to find those responsible. Any information, no matter how small, could be the missing piece we need."
A police cordon currently remains on Cliff Street whilst the force carries out their investigations in piecing together what happened.
Armstrong added that the public should feel reassured, as extra officers will be patrolling the area, but encouraged anyone who may have seen anything to get in touch with police as soon as possible.
Those who wish to provide any potential information can speak to the police online, quoting incident refence number 122 on February 24th, 2024.
