The Covid vaccination progamme is being ramped up in Sheffield today with the opening of the city's second mass centre.

The Octagon at Sheffield Uni will be delivering around 800 jabs each day in addition to Sheffield Arena which opened back in January.

Bosses hope its proximity to the city centre will help more people access a vaccination.

Dr Jennifer Hill, Medical Director (Operations) at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said:

“GPs, nurses, pharmacists, volunteers and countless other NHS staff have been incredible in delivering the vaccination programme as quickly as possible and this new site will help us to accelerate immunisation efforts once again.

"I would urge everyone to get their vaccination as soon as they are called for it by the NHS. It’s also important to be mindful that whilst the vaccine will protect those who have it from being very sick, the virus is still being transmitted.

"We therefore ask that everyone continues to adhere to the Hands, Face, Space guidance, limit contact with others as much as possible and continue to wear a face mask to prevent further infections.”

Those currently eligible for a Covid vaccination can book theirs at the Octagon through tha national NHS booking service.
