A Sheffield man is being sought by police after failing to turn up to answer a murder charge in court last week.

21 year old Danyal Iqbal, formerly of Popple Street, was charged in absentia with the murder of 23 year old Hamza Mohammed in June 2024.

Mohammed was found with a fatal head injury on June 8 last year after police were called to reports of a serious assault at a takeaway on Staniforth Road in Darnall. He died in hospital.

Police believe Iqbal may have fled abroad after he failed to appear at Sheffield Magistrates' Court the Monday before last (September 15).

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “We believe Iqbal may have travelled overseas shortly after the incident, and we now need the public’s help to find him and bring him to trial."

"He has been charged with murder in his absence and failed to attend court for his first appearance last week.

“Enquiries are ongoing to locate Iqbal and I would urge anyone who has information on his whereabouts to contact us immediately.

"No matter how small or insignificant the information you may have might seem, this could be the missing piece that we need to bring him before the courts.”
