A Sheffield mum who had to fight for her life after a mistake in her plastic surgery wants tighter controls on the industry.

A surgeon did Alison South's tummy tuck and liposuction operations at the same time - a mistake which left her with life-threatening complications.

She now wants tighter regulations on the cosmetics industry to prevent people going through what she did.

Alison told us it's had a huge impact on her life:

"I had to have it debrided. The scar is 20cm long by 19cms deep. It's not healed properly. I've had two skin grafts on it and all for the sake of the surgeon not knowing what they were doing, because they shouldn't have done a tummy tuck and liposuction at the same time."

"It left me feeling destroyed really. Never trusting health professionals as they really did alter my life."

"Since then, my relationship's broken down. I'm now a single mum of three. I've got no confidence. I won't wear swimwear, I won't wear anything revealing because that's there all the time and it's just... this scar is a constant reminder of how stupid I was really."

It's as a report's shown the number of cosmetic surgeries have more than doubled in the last decade.

Alison says there must be something done to make sure surgeons know what they're doing:

"There must be stricter regulations because this wouldn't be allowed to happen if there were stricter regulations and it could just stop ruining someone's life."

"I think every surgeon, cosmetic or otherwise needs to be thoroughly checked out and, obviously, if mistakes like this are made, they need to be publicised a lot more and it needs to be open, so people can get this information, cause all the information that's out there at the moment just makes it look so glamorous and so easy and, believe me, it isn't. It really isn't. It's horrifying and really scary."
