A 17 year old boy has been arrested on suspicion of malicious communications, after email threats were made to nine Sheffield schools this morning.

South Yorkshire Police were contacted at 6:38am today after a message was sent to the schools, as well as a nursery in North London.

St Mary's School in Walthamstow made the decision to close its nursery this morning after the threat was received.

In a statement, South Yorkshire Police said:

"We understand that this will be concerning for parents, pupils and staff in our community and reassure you that immediately following the reports officers worked at pace and have found no evidence to suggest the threat is genuine."
