A man is recovering in hospital after being attacked with a hammer outside of a Sheffield pub on Saturday night.

Police were called to The Birley hotel on Birley Moor Road at 7:54pm to reports of a serious assault.

The 43 year old victim had suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Investigations are ongoing and witnesses are being urged to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101.
