Rotherham rioter who claimed she 'got carried away' at hotel disorder jailed

The 19 year old was seen handing out items to be thrown at police

A teenage Rotherham rioter who claimed she 'got carried away' while taking part in rioting last summer has been jailed.

19 year old Elarna Garner-Abbey, of Station Road in Dunscroft, was spotted handing out missiles to be thrown at police during disorder outside the Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Manvers on August 4.

She claimed upon arrest to be sat on the pavement during the riot despite a recording showing her throwing stones at officers.

She then claimed she "thought it was just for fun" and didn't intent to hit anyone.

Garner Abbey was handed 18 months in a youth offenders institution after admitting to violent disorder.

Also appearing at Sheffield Crown Court yesterday, 22 year old Philip Wood of Milton Street in Bootle was jailed for two years.

He was caught on camera throwing branches and debris at officers while wearing a face cocvering.

Wood was identified after taking his shirt off, revealing a distinctive tattoo of Elvis Presley on his arm.

He admitted to violent disorder.
