Three playgrounds across Rotherham have been earmarked for replacement over the next two years.

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council will replace playgrounds at Chestnut Grove in Dinnington, Rother Valley Country Park, and Thrybergh Country Park, at a total cost of £380,000.

The funding for the Children’s Playgrounds Programme comes from the Council’s capital budget, which has allocated £916,000 over three years (2024-2027) for play area improvements.

This funding is supplemented by additional sources, including Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and Section 106 contributions – contributions from developers, typically for infrastructure improvements that benefit the local community.

The play areas were prioritised based on several factors, including their current condition, safety concerns, geographical spread and local need.

The new play areas will be completed between May 2025 and March 2027.
