There are calls for an inquiry into how around three years' worth of body camera worn footage was lost recently by South Yorkshire Police.

It was revealed yesterday that the force had lost a 'significant' amount of data from July 2020 up until May of this year - which could impact 69 cases.

The MP for Rotherham - Sarah Champion - says questions needs answering:

"I'm very keen that we get an inquiry into exactly how this video footage has been lost.

"Was it not recorded properly at the time?

"Was it not stored properly at the time?

"Has somebody accidentally deleted, misplaced or overwritten the data?

"This shouldn't have been allowed to happen, and my concern is that this could happen again going forwards unless we get to the bottom of it."

The force has since referred itself to the Information Commissioner's Office.
