Teenager dies following serious motorcycle collision near Rotherham
The 20-year-old driver of the motorbike remains in hospital for treatment
A teenager has died following a serious multi-vehicle collision near Rotherham on Thursday morning (March 27th).
Officers from South Yorkshire Police were alerted to an incident taking place on Morthen Road in the Thurcroft area at around 10:10am.
When responders arrived at the scene, they found that a black Yamaha motorcycle had been involved in a crash with a silver Peugeot and a grey Land Rover.
The motorbike is believed to have been going in the direction of Wickersley from Thurcroft when it tried to overtake a car before being hit by the Peugeot.
Officers found that the driver of the motorbike, a 20-year-old man - as well as the passenger of the motorbike - a 17-year-old boy - required immediate medical attention and were taken to hospital shortly after.
However, despite their best efforts - the 17-year-old passenger was pronounced dead on Friday (March 28th). The driver remains in hospital in a serious condition.
Speaking on the case, Sergeant John Taylor from South Yorkshire Police said that speculation should be curbed as investigations continue.
"We are aware of online speculation around the circumstances of the crash. Officers were in the area on a pre-planned operation, and had seen the motorbike, but it was not being pursued at the time of the collision.
“We are now keen to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident and are keen to hear from anyone who may be able to help.
“If you witnessed the collision or the motorcycle prior to the collision, or have footage that can assist our inquiry, please get in touch.”
