A Rotherham man has been found guilty of murder after attacking a woman who was suffering from breast cancer.

Paul Storm Blueitt, 36, went into Wellgate News in Rotherham back in September and assaulted Judith Ducker, 64, before taking £40 from the till.

Judith was left with a fractured skull and eye socket as well as bruising on her brain after being assaulted by Blueitt.

Her injuries meant that she could not continue with her breast cancer treatment and she died in hospital the next month.

Detective Sargeant Andy Shields lead the investigation:

"The consequence of this assault was that Judith would never be well enough to recieve further cancer treatment and after being taken to hospital, a CT head scan revealed that Judith's breast cancer had spread to her brain. Such were her head injuries that further cancer treament could not be given to her and she sadly died in hospital on the 20th October last year"

After an 11 day trial, a jury agreed with the prosecution that Judith's head injuries caused by Blueitt prevented her from having vital cancer treatment which then led to her death.

Blueitt was originally charged with attempted murder but since Judith's death the charge was upgraded to murder. He will now spend life in prison and have to serve a minimum of 27 years in prison before he can be considered for release.

DS Shields added:

"This was a complex investigation, and the conviction has come through the hard work of the investigative team, alongside input and support from key partner agences. I hope that this offers some degree of closure to Judith's family who have had to endure the aginy of having their loved one taken away from them"
