A Rotherham man has been jailed four years after carrying out a knifepoint robbery, before leaving the country.

25 year old Stefan Lukac targeted the convenience store in December 2020, menacing an employee with a knife before assaulting her and forcing her to open the till.

He took around ÂŁ140 in cash.

He was finally detained by police in October 2024, when he was stopped at Meadowhall in connection with an allegation of shoplifting.

Fingerprints linked him to the initial crime in Rotherham and he was subsequently charged with robbery.

The 25 year old, of Grosvenor Road, admitted the charge and was handed a four year four month sentence at Sheffield Crown Court.

Detective Constable Georgia Evers said: "Nobody should go to work feeling unsafe and Lukac's callous actions and blatant disregard for the consequences of his actions has left a lasting impact on his victim.

"Lukac brazenly returned to the UK likely not expecting to be held accountable for his offending. However this was not the case and Lukac will now spend a considerable time behind bars."
