Police are appealing for information after gunshots were fired in Rotherham, causing damage to two homes in the same street.

Emergency services were called to Stanley Street at 11.10pm last night (December 9) following reports of damage to a window thought to have been caused by a firearm.

Officers attending the scene found evidence of gunshots at two properties. No injuries have been reported.

A cordon remains in place while investigations, including house-to-house visits and CCTV reviews, are underway.

Detective Inspector Claire Moss of South Yorkshire Police said:

"This news is concerning - criminals carrying firearms on our streets is not acceptable. There will be an increased police presence in the local area while officers carry out further enquiries.

"Our work to track down those responsible is underway and we need to hear from anyone who knows something about this incident or suspicious goings-on in the community. Please speak to our officers while they are in Stanley Street and the surrounding area.

"There are various ways to get in touch and you can even remain completely anonymous by reporting through the independent charity Crimestoppers.

"Our investigation into this incident is continuing and we remain committed to relentlessly pursuing those who use firearms to spread harm, violence and fear in our communities.

"Every time someone pulls a trigger, innocent people's lives are put at risk and we absolutely will not tolerate gun crime here in South Yorkshire.

"We are always stronger with your support and even the smallest piece of information could prove to be a crucial part of the jigsaw."
