The Rotherham Climate Action Group fear 'an opportunity has been missed' at Cop 26
Negotiations at the climate summit in Scotland are scheduled to come to an end today
Climate activists across South Yorkshire insist 'more could've been achieved' at Cop 26 over the past two weeks.
Negotiations involving several world leaders are expected to come to an end at the summit in Glasgow today.
Deborah Gibson from the Rotherham Climate Action Group feels an opportunity has been missed to make significant progress internationally:
"The detail is completely lacking. The World Leaders have already come to agreements to agree, at the climate meeting in Paris several years ago.
"This was meant to be putting detail onto those previous agreements, which hasn't really happened.
"We need huge change, within businesses and governments, as well as our behaviours as individuals.
"In order to achieve these objectives, it takes a massive amount of leadership, and I just don't think we're seeing that from any of these 'so called' world leaders right now."
Deborah went on to describe what has disappointed her the most in recent days:
"They've been covering things like Methane emissions at Cop 26, but what's the baseline for the methane emissions?
"If you've got a baseline, then you can work from that. The baseline has been discussed by scientists, but it doesn't seem to have been taken on by the leaders.
"If they discuss the baseline, then we know where we're working from and what we're working towards.
"Clearly, we're working towards zero, but from what level? If we know what level we're working from, we know how hard to work. If we know how hard to work, then we know what we need to do to address this climate crisis once and for all."
