'Prolific' Derbyshire burglar jailed

A Derbyshire man described by police as a 'prolific burglar' has been jailed after breaking into a home while a family slept upstairs.

He entered one property, smashed a window at another and then went on to try doors at two other addresses in Wirksworth back on the 3rd of February,

39-year-old Christopher Turner from Cromford will be behind bars for two years.

Derbyshire Police said: "Christopher Turner entered the home in Summer Lane, Wirksworth in the early hours of 3 February this year.

"He stole two laptops, gaming cards and speakers.

"That same morning, he smashed a window at another property in Summer Lane, in an attempt to gain entry but was thwarted by an alarm sounding.

"The 39-year-old then went on to try doors at two addresses in Summer Drive and Stafford Crescent, before being arrested by officers.

"Turner, of Chestnut Court, Cromford, was charged and remanded to appear at court on 5 February. Magistrates then further remanded him into prison custody.

"On 16 May he was handed a two-year prison sentence at Derby Crown Court."
