Police ready to respond 'immediately' to incidents in Mexborough
People living and working in Mexborough are being reassured by police that they're working to cut crime there.
Police are out in Mexborough trying to cut crime in the area and reassure people living there.
It's after two incidents there involving gunshots in the space of 24 hours on Frederick street and Victoria road.
Superintendent Natalie Shaw from Doncaster said:
“We are aware that in the last couple of weeks there have been a number of reports of antisocial behaviour and criminal damage, including a couple of reported gunfire incidents.
“Incidents like this are concerning and distressing for the wider community but I would like to reassure you that they appear to be targeted attacks between two groups and a number of those involved are now in prison.
“Regardless, this behaviour is completely unacceptable and we will take robust action against any individual found to be taking part in these crimes."
There's been an increased presence in and around the Schofield street area.
A number of searches have also been carried out locally in the last couple of days to tackle antisocial behaviour, criminal damage and violence.
Supt. Shaw added:
“We have a continued, increased police presence in the area, including extra officers on patrol and various other police resources that have been deployed into the town, to be able to immediately respond should any incidents occur and be available to offer assistance to the public."
Residents wanting to report issues are being reminded they can do so anonymously to Crimestoppers.
