Officers from South Yorkshire Police will be out in Darnall tonight appealing once again for anyone with information about the death of Zabair Hussain to come forward.

They'll be in the Staniforth Road area between 8pm and midnight two weeks after the 41 year old was reportedly assaulted.

He was found with multiple injuries to his head and body at around 11:20pm on New Year's Eve and died a short time later.

Police will be handing out appeal leaflets in a variety of languages to people who live nearby and motorists passing through the area, in the hope that more people may come forward with information.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Handley, the senior investigating officer, said:

"Tonight’s activity will mark two weeks since Mr Hussain was subjected to a brutal and sustained assault.

"From the information we’ve received so far, we understand that a group of men were involved in an altercation in the middle of Staniforth Road at around 11.20pm and believe that several motorists may have had to take evasive action to avoid the men.

  • *

"We need to hear from those individuals, we need to hear from those people living locally that may not yet have come forward, to understand what took place two weeks ago tonight and what lead to Mr Hussain’s death."

A 30-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Mr Hussain. Idris Sadiq, of Darnall Road, Darnall, is currently on remand to appear before Sheffield Crown Court next month.

Two other men remain on bail in connection to the investigation: a 28-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder and a 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

DCI Handley continued:

**

"We continue to appeal for the whereabouts of a grey Peugeot 307, registration number MC57 BZP, seen in Staniforth Road before and after the alleged assault. This has not yet been found and I hope that tonight’s activity jogs someone’s memory.

  • *

"To ensure that we gather as much information as possible about the events leading up to Mr Hussain’s death, we’ve translated this appeal into several different languages because we must speak to as many members of the community as we can.

"I’d urge anyone with information to come forward. If you don’t want to provide your name, you can do this in confidence to my investigative team. Crimestoppers can also be used anonymously via 0800 555 111."
