New Tourism Website Launched to Showcase Rotherham

Visit Rotherham website was launched today, and is hoped to act as a hub of information about the town.

Set up by Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber of Commerce, the creation of the website has seen businesses across the community pull together in order to help create a tourism boost for the town.

However, this isn’t just aimed at tourists, but also those who live in and local to Rotherham. Hallam FM went to the launch and talked to those involved, and one main message is the desire to let local people know what's on offer around them.

It's hoped to bring numerous benefits to the town, Hallam FM spoke to some of the guests at the launch events ...

Jason Gossip, a development manager of a hotel using the website hold Hallam FM that he hopes it will bring the city together to support more tourism ...

'It's got to be a co-ordinated effort, it will make people see that Rotherham isn't all about bad press'.

Amy Stephenson, founder of Human Recruitment based in Rotherham, which is sponsoring the webpage explained how she's a local but has already learnt from the webpage ...

'It's going to give that exposure to the small independent coffee shops. What's equally important is to make people that live in the area aware.'

Phil Sayles, deputy principal from Rotherham College is hopeful that this will bring new work experience and apprenticeship opportunities to local students and businesses ...

'Hope the companies will see that apprenticeships could be a really good way of getting a trained workforce.'

Manager of the Rotherham Parkgate shopping centre, Janet Drewery is encouraging local businesses to get involved in the initiative....
