New Rotherham boss has sights set on play-offs
The new manager of Rotherham United Alan Stubbs has been officially unveiled at the New York Stadium
The new manager of Rotherham United says he's aiming for the club to be in the play-offs next season.
Former Hiberian boss Alan Stubbs was officially unveiled at the New York Stadium today after he and assistant John Doolan signed a three-year deal.
He's described his appointment as a ‘great opportunity’ and says he can't wait to get started.
Stubbs helped secure Hibs’ first Scottish Cup triumph in 114 years after beating Rangers last month, but now says he's fully focused on his new challenge.
"I was impressed with what the Chairman had to say and his vision for the football club," he said.
"The ambition fitted in with my ambitions. I think we're both very ambitious people. I'm delighted to be sitting here today being confimed as the manager of Rotherham football club and really looking forward to what's ahead.
"The club's had two seasons now where they've stablised in the Championship and we're looking now to take the club forward, that is the aim full stop.
"We want to be moving up the table and ultimately we want to be a club that is around the play-offs towards the end of the season. That has to be the aim."
It will be the first time Stubbs has managed a team outside of Scotland, but brings with him a wealth of experience.
After an 18-year professional career which saw the former central defender take in spells at Bolton Wanderers, Celtic, Everton, Sunderland and Derby County, he then switched to coaching joining the backroom staff at Everton.
He made the step up to head coach in 2014 when he was given the top job at Hibernian.
Millers Chairman Tony Stewart told Hallam he's the right man for the job: "The club needs new life and new blood, which is what we've got. But having said that, we saw the last 16 games of last season where we went 11 games without defeat. So we have got the infrastructure that's got desire and want.
