Staff at Sheffield University and at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals are reporting a new covid variant in South Yorkshire.

49 cases of a new variant have been identified, mostly in Yorkshire and the Humber.

It's been known about since April, but experts aren't sure yet where it's come from.

It's currently classified as a variant under invesitgation - not a variant of concern.

And Public Health England say there's no reason to believe that the vaccinations wouldn't work against the strain.
