Murder investigation launched in Rotherham

Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a 20-year-old man in Wickersley on Sunday (2 June).

Officers were called shortly after 4pm to reports of a crash on Morthen Road at the junction with Moat Lane.

It is reported that a silver Land Rover Discovery and silver Subaru Forester were involved in a collision and left the road.

A 20-year-old man who was a passenger in the Land Rover died at the scene.

A man aged 21 was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Matt Bolger, said: “We have now declared our investigation into this man’s death a murder investigation.

“This is in the early stages and our team of detectives are working hard with extensive enquiries to piece together the circumstances of what happened on Sunday afternoon. I would strongly encourage the public not to speculate about the incident and respect the privacy of those affected.
