Two arrested after alleged rape of woman in Mexborough

Two men have been arrested in connection with a serious sexual assault in Mexborough on Saturday (May 2).

A woman reported being attacked on Bank Street at 2:09am.

On Sunday (May 3) two men—aged 48 and 45—were arrested in connection with the case.

The 48-year-old was arrested on suspicion of rape and the 45-year-old on suspicion of sexual assault.

Both have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Susannah Wagstaff said: "We know that news of this incident will cause concern in our local communities, but I want to reassure you that we have a team of detectives working hard to progress this investigation.

"While officers conduct their enquiries, anyone who might have information about this incident is asked to contact us online or on 101, quoting incident number 85 of 2 May 2026."
