A man has been given a suspended jail sentence following a dangerous dog attack in South Yorkshire, which left another dogwalker needing a skin graft.

The bull breed bit the man's forearm, before latching onto his hip and inner thigh for around 10 minutes.

Police said the man was taken to hospital after losing blood, and had to stay for around two weeks, while also needing a skin graft.

The dog - called Kojo - was seized by police hand must now wear a basked style fitted muzzle while out in public.

While at home, Kojo must be secured behind a dog gate or bolted door when strangers visit his home.

Kojo must also complete a behaviour modification and management programme and to be seen by a vet within one month of returning home and be checked annually thereafter.

His owner has been handed a six month prison sentence, suspended for a year, and has been told to complete community work as well as pay a fine.

Chief Inspector Emma Cheney, leading the work on dangerous dogs in South Yorkshire said: “Your dog is your responsibility and it is you, the owner who will face the consequences in court for their actions."
