A man has been jailed for nine years and banned from driving for a further fifteen after a fatal crash last year in Doncaster.

20 year old Joshua Rafferty was behind the wheel of a stolen Ford Mondeo which was being driven at speed along Goodison Boulevard last July 26.

He lost control, with the vehicle hitting a lamppost and an electricity box at the side of the road.

Passenger, 30 year old Aiden Allen, was pronounced dead at the scene while Rafferty was freed from being trapped inside the car.

It emerged the Mondeo had been reported stolen, with Rafferty driving without a licence or insurance and on false plates.

Wraps of Class A drugs were discovered in his stocks and he was found to have alcohol and cocaine in his system.

He was sentenced earlier today (April 7) at Sheffield Crown Court.

PC Natalie Booler, from the South Yorkshire Police Serious Collisions Unit, said:“My thoughts remain with those affected by Aiden’s loss.

“Driving under the influence of drugs is one of the four most common contributing factors to fatal collisions and on that night, Rafferty got behind the wheel of that car knowing he was in no fit state or had a licence to drive.

“Rafferty was the driver of that vehicle - he had control, he made the decisions and his actions killed Aiden.”
