A 24-year-old man has been jailed for eight years for causing the deaths of three people in a collision in Askern on Boxing Day last year.

Appearing at Sheffield Crown Court, Ricky Joe Hepworth, of Newmarche Drive, Askern, was also disqualified from driving for 11 years.

Late on Saturday 26th December, a blue Volvo S60 and four pedestrians were involved in a collision in Sutton Road at the junction with Manor Way in Askern.

Three of the pedestrians, two 54-year-old women and a 48-year-old man, died as a result of their injuries.

The fourth pedestrian, a 57-year-old man, suffered life-threatening injuries.

At a court hearing earlier this year, Hepworth entered guilty pleas to three counts of causing death by dangerous driving, one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, one count of failing to stop, one count of driving with no insurance and one count of driving without a licence.

Sergeant Donna Roden, the investigating officer, said:

"The sentence handed out today will not lessen the devastating impact of Hepworth's actions on the families of those killed and the wider community, and our condolences remain with them.

"I hope today's result helps those affected take another step towards rebuilding their lives."
