Man dies after being hit by van in Silkstone
An 81-year-old man's died after being knocked down as he crossed the road in Silkstone.
The incident happened at around 9.35am on Barnsley Road in Silkstone, outside the Texaco Petrol Station.
It was reported that a silver Peugeot panel van was heading in the direction of Hoylandswaine when it hit the man.
He was given treatment at the scene for serious head injuries but later passed away.
The driver of the van, a 39-year-old Barnsley man, was uninjured.
Anyone who saw the collision is asked to contact police via 101 quoting incident number 221 of February 22 2016.
Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision that led to the death of a pensioner from Silkstone.
The incident occurred this morning (Monday 22 February) at around 9.35am on Barnsley Road in Silkstone outside the Texaco Petrol Station.
It was reported that a silver Peugeot panel van was travelling along Barnsley Road in the direction of Hoylandswaine when it was involved in a collision with an 81-year-old man who was crossing the road at the time.
The pensioner suffered a serious head injury and was given treatment at the scene but died of his injuries.
The driver of the van, a 39-year-old Barnsley man, was uninjured.
Anyone who witnessed the collision, the pedestrian or the manner of driving of the van prior to the collision is asked to contact police via 101 quoting incident number 221 of February 22 2016.
