Man arrested on suspicion of murder in Sheffield

An investigation is underway after a woman was found dead in Sheffield.

Emergency services were called to Owlthorpe at around half past 6 in the morning after reports of concern.

Police say a 31 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in police custody.

A spokesperson from South Yorkshire Police said:

"A police investigation has been launched following the death of a woman in Sheffield.

"Officers were called by Yorkshire Ambulance Service shortly after 6.30am today (16 March) following reports of concern for a woman at a property in Edenthorpe Dell in Owlthorpe.

"Police attended the scene, alongside the fire service, and sadly a 33-year-old woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her family has been informed and is being supported by specially trained officers.

"An investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death has now been launched. There is a cordon in place on Edenthorpe Dell while officers carry out their work and members of the public are being asked to avoid the area.

"A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody at this time."
