A major incident has been declared by emergency services in South Yorkshire - as they battle fires across the county tonight.

A number of homes have been evacuated because of field fires and businesses have had to close.

Fire crews say call outs are being prioritised in relation to risk to life and risk to property - they're advising people to avoid calling 999 unless it's life threatening.

Today has seen record-breaking temperatures in Britain, reaching over 40 degrees Celsius for the first time.

Rother Valley MP Alexander Stafford has said he is in close contact with Fire Minister Sarah Dines MP, and the region's Mayor Oliver Coppard is reiterating the advice from the emergency services.
