Police in the Derbyshire Dales say they were 'surprised' to discover a 'lost dog' reported to them earlier this week was actually a plastic reindeer.
Officers were called to Slack Hill along Chesterfield Road, close to Matlock, after reports of a small bully type dogs tied to a lamppost near a junction.
On arrival they quickly realised it was "one of Santa's reindeer resting after a test flight over the Dales area".
Police say it was left alone after "being given some stern words about being seen in the middle of November."
