There's been chaos on Penistone Road in Sheffield after a lorry came off the road and crashed into a brick wall.

South Yorkshire Police say they were called to the scene just before midday after the Highway Maintenance truck hit an electrical substation opposite the New Barrack Tavern.

Sheffield City Council said the collision caused a power cut, affecting traffic signals on the road.

Some damage was also caused to second hand cars on a nearby forecourt.

Simone told us she saw it happen: “I just saw the lorry coming down the road…it’s run over two bollards and into the power station. There was a car following behind with a nurse in it so he ran straight up and checked if the driver was alright.

“It was lucky really. But it’s scary because it happened so close.

“It was just crash, crash, bang bang… it was absolutely horrific. I’ve never heard anything like it in my life. It was just so close. It’s lucky no one’s died.”

The road has now reopened.
